BATTLE SYSTEMS
OPEN AND CLOSED THREADS
If you are participating in a thread labeled 'open' or 'close' then the battle system is 'hybrid'. No health or mana will be lost, though a character cannot actually gain anything other than personal character development through these threads.
MISSION AND EVENTS THREADS
If a character is participating in a mission thread then IC actions will have actual consequences. They can take damage, they can lose mana and limbs, and they can even die if they are foolish enough to go after a creature more powerful than they are.
Players will control the NPCs in these threads though staff will join in to provide additional information regarding the monsters and occasionally to throw in more twists.
At the start of these threads each character must include in the OOC section a listing of: Their current health, their current mana level, and any items in their inventory - weapons and restorative items. This information must be placed in ALL posts. Any items gained after that thread begins will not be applied to the current thread. This information must also be plainly visible at all times, so if a scrolling template is used it cannot be placed at the bottom of the template.
The actual fighting will be threaded out in a Hybrid style. This gives all players in the thread flexibility when it comes to saying if their attack hits, if a dodge was successful, etc. If, during the course of the thread, one player feels another is abusing either the hit or the dodge system they may PM staff to report this. If staff does not respond (but has been on) within 24-hours they may be gently asked to look at their PMs in the box, but that is the extent that the subject should be brought up.
While threading out the fighting players will update their OOC information as it changes. If they cast a spell their mana information will change. If an item from their inventory is used up it will be marked as such, etc., etc. The only thing that a player will not update themselves is their health information. As there is no health bar staff will inform players if the damage they had taken is enough to knock them down to a lower level of health.
At the end of the thread staff will glance over the thread both to review what happened and to see if the OOC information was recorded properly. If so, the character's profile will be updated accordingly.
If staff catches any attempts made by the player to try to cheat the system - failure to properly update the information, consistent avoidance of damage from NPCs, etc. - that player will be banned from Plot Threads until further notice.
