SETTINGS
ABOUT
This thread contains the setting descriptions for the various areas in all of Hyrule. For a visual of how the country is set up please reference THIS MAP; you can see how all the various maps are neatly combined together.
While a character may claim any of the listed kingdoms or locations as their home currently only Hyrule is playable. Staff cannot guarantee that other locations will be made playable in the future and we recommend that this is kept in mind when creating a character. Their history should bring them into Hyrule Proper so that they can interact with other characters.
HYRULE
LANAYRU PROVINCE
The largest province in Hyrule proper. Lanayru covers the entire center and eastern portion of Hyrule and contains the remains of Lake Hylia along with Castle City.
Gerudo Royal Castle: Once the home of the Hylian Royal Family, the Castle has now become the home to the Gerudo Royal family. The Queen rules here and the Royal Guards also claim this as their home.
The great Ganondorf lives inside the castle as well, though time has caused him to become little more than a living statue seated on his throne. Only those of the Royal Family know that he still rules.
Lake Hylia: Once a beautiful and pristine lake that was home to the Zoras, Lake Hylia is now a polluted swampland filled with mutated monsters. The pollution is believed to have killed off any of the remaining Zora that survived the Gerudo's ruthless assault, though rumors exist of a clan of Zora that had managed to survive in these conditions.[/ul][/blockquote]
SNOWPEAK PROVINCE
Directly north of Castle City lies the path to Snowpeak. Long ago the path had been guarded by a faction of the Gerudo Royal Guards but it has been years - centuries, truly - since anyone has manned their post. Snowpeak is a frozen tundra that is inhospitable to nearly any life.[/b] A large and rather decrepit mansion that lies at the very top of Snowpeak Mountain. Most of it has fallen apart and is filled with ice, snow, and wolfos.[/ul][/blockquote]
ELDIN PROVINCE
A large province that covers the entire western section of Hyrule. Unlike Lanayru Eldin has only suffered mildly from the effects of the pollution; because of this, wildlife can actually be found roaming the plains.[/b] A small town that lies south and to the east of Castle Town. Kakariko has suffered and struggled throughout the years; its association with the Gorons and with the Shiekah has led to occupation by the Gerudo on several occasions, though currently there are no military forces in the town. Kakariko is about as rural as Hyrule gets.
Old Kakariko: Located north of Kakariko and hidden behind a rocky gorge is the remains of the ancient Kakariko village, the once-home of the Sheikah. This place was found by the Gerudo Royal Guards and was decimated, leaving behind nothing more than torn-down houses and shattered ruins. It has been years since anyone has investigated though.
Death Mountain: A large and imposing mountain that towers above Kakariko Village. Death Mountain was once the home to the Gorons though, after Ganondorf took control, their mountain was invaded and their kind enslaved. Death Mountain was secured and patrolled by the Gerudo for years, though in the recent centuries their attentiveness has waned with no sign of any activity inside the mountain. The mountain itself is barren and devoid of most life, though the few creatures that do roam it are incredibly vicious.[/ul][/blockquote]
FARON PROVINCE.
The southern-most province of Hyrule. Over the course of time the province known as Ordon has become part of Faron. Even with the extra land Faron is still the smallest of the Provinces and is the province most untouched by the pollution; the forests remain lush and fertile and have recovered from the burnings so many centuries ago.[/b] A town that lies in the southernmost region of Faron. Though smaller than Castle City or even Kakariko Village, Ordon has a small but fairly wealthy population. The village makes money by raising livestock.
Faron Woods: A rather large and sprawling forest that extends north of Ordon Village. Centuries ago the forest was burned to the ground and there are still areas where the trees refuse to grow, but overall the forest has recovered.
Sacred Grove: Located far to the west of Faron woods is an area of forest untouched by the burnings of the Gerudo and an area that has yet to be invaded by Ganondorf. It is said that some Kokiri took refuge in the Sacred Grove when Ganondorf came to power and also that the legendary master sword is hidden away within the forest.[/ul][/blockquote]
DESERT PROVINCE
A large open expanse of desert located to the east of Hyrule. Though still technically part of Hyrule the desert does not actually connect with the rest of the country; centuries ago any connection was removed to prevent the prisoners held at the Arbiter's Ground from returning to Hyrule. With the Gerudo's rise in power they have created a man-made bridge that extends from Lanayru to the Desert, though passage and use of the bridge is still monitored by a faction of the Royal Guards.[/b] Arbiter's Ground is the remains of a prison that once held the traitors of the Gerudo race. Though bad memories and bad blood line the walls of the prison no Gerudo has stepped foot inside of it since their ascension to power. The stone structure has remained abandon and empty for centuries.[/ul][/blockquote]
TERMINA
CENTRAL TERMINA
The mainland area of Termina. Clock Town and Romani Ranch can be found here.[/b] Though is has long overgrown its 'town' status Clock Town keeps the name to promote its smalltown charm. It's the cultural center of Termina and it survives mainly as a vacation location for those who live in Hyrule.
Romani Ranch: Though Ordon sells livestock, Romani Ranch has become famous due to its horses and the rides offered here. Their Chateau Romani milk is still famous, though it's stopped being milk along time ago and is now just a famous alcohol beverage.[/ul][/blockquote]
GREAT BAY
The ocean front that lies to the west of Clock Town. Great Bay used to be the home of the Zoras, though as the shipping trade and the port on the bay grew their living space was rapidly depleted. A few still live here though.[/b] A long time ago this had been a simple scientist's research center. Over the centuries it has been turned into a large docking bay and the center of traffic for ships dropping off supplies for both Termina and Hyrule.
The pirate's cove still functions as well and serves as a harbor for Gerdos who disagree with the currently rule.
Zora Hall: Located several meters away from the shoreline, Zora Hall is an underwater rock formation that used to serve as a home for the Zora. Though a few still live here most have left, finding it hard to live and raise children so close to the bustling port.
Pirate's Cove: Far off to the distance and north of the bay itself lies a cove that a small group of Gerudo live in. The entrance isn't guarded but the natural rock formations make it nearly impossible to get in without their knowledge. The ones who live here feel uneasy with the current Gerudo rule.[/ul][/blockquote]
SNOWHEAD
A large mountain range that appears in the northern region of Termina. A long time ago a deep freezing cold started to spread across the once warm and lush mountain landscape, covering everything in ice and snow. The snow never melted and the majority of Gorons were forced to leave to survive.[/b] A small and rather cozy village that has grown at the base of the mountain. The village has turned into a resort over the years, famous for the year-round snow and winter activities.
Snowhead Mountain: The peak of the mountain range where the ice and the cold is at its worse. Remains of the old Goron Village lies nearby though no one calls the abandoned village home anymore; the adverse conditions forced them to head to the Mountain Village or to Clock Town.[/ul][/blockquote]
IKANA CANYON
An area that lives to the west of Clock Town. It's a rather expansive barren wasteland that has managed to remain untouched throughout the passage of time. Though attempts have been made to try to turn the area into something usable all attempts have ended poorly.[/b] An ancient graveyard that has gone without a caretaker for centuries; when it became obvious that Ikana couldn't be repurposed for anything 'useful' everyone withdrew. For those brave enough to come by during the day they will see rows of broken tombstones. At night, however...
Ancient Castle: A large castle that stands empty and deserted save for the ghosts that still haunt the ground. No one has been on the castle grounds for years so it would be the perfect place for someone who lives in the shadows to hide.
Stone Tower: A large tower that stands in the further reaches of Ikana Cannon. It is said to hold the power to reverse directions and that within lies a mysterious temple. Nothing more is known as most records have been lost during the ages.[/ul][/blockquote]
SOUTHERN FOREST
The area in the south of Termina was once covered by an expansive forest that bordered a swamp deep inside it. Over the course of the centuries the forest has been trimmed back, the swamp has been tamed, and the creatures that had called it their home have retreated even further into the depths of the forest.[/b] The tourist agency in the swamp has grown to be a large and extremely profitable business. The boat tour has added onto it a complete tour of the Deku Palace, or what had been the Deku Palace - the Deku had been driven out, replaced instead by actors who put on shows for tourists.
Old Deku Palace: The Dekus were forced from their home years with the expansion of man. It is now filled with actors who put on shows for tourists who go through on part of their tour of the swamp.
Woods Of Mystery: An area of forest within the Southern Swamp. The original magic and maze has been replaced with a man-made one and serves as an off-branch of the Tourist Agency.
Woodfall: An ancient temple buried within the deepest reaches of the forest and the swamp. The Deku tribe was forcibly relocated here years ago when humans began to take over their swamp. No one has entered for years and no one even truly knows if the Deku's are still alive... or still the same.[/ul][/blockquote]
HOLODRUM
BASIC DESCRIPTION
A kingdom that lies south Termina, separated by a mountain range. Humans are the main inhabitants, though is it rumored that a race known as the Rito live there as well. Holudrum is famous for its dancers.
LABRYNNA
BASIC DESCRIPTION
A kingdom that is west of Holudrum and south of Hyrule that used to be part of Holodrum until its citizens demanded freedom. Unlike the other kingdoms Labrynna has no royal family and is run completely by its citizens. Inhabited by humans, this kingdom is famous for its music and art.[/div][/div]
