RED like ROSES fills my head with dreams that find me, always closer to the emptiness and sadness that has come to take the place of you. I know you didn't plan this, you tried to do whats right. But in the middle of this madness, I'm the one you left to win this fight.
| I t was hot. Extremely hot. Melting, really, would have even been a good word to use to describe the current state that Tobias was in. Termina connected to Hyrule through one of two routes - there was a path through the frozen mountainscape above Snowhead that was suicidal to attempt during any time of the year except for summer, and there was the path that wound out from behind Ikana Canyon through the Gerudo Desert. The Desert was equally inhospitable and the seasons didn't seem to change just how sweltering it was, but it was at least survivable. That, combined with the fact that his family had made their home in the Ikana Canyon, meant that it had been decided for Tobias to set off on this path. It could have been worse. It was a mantra that the young Hylian had found himself repeating over- and over- and over again in his mind as he walked across the desert. Ikana Canyon was dry and hot and it was almost like a desert if you squinted and looked at it right and that was where he had grown up. He was used to the heat and he knew how to dress properly - long pants made of a light material, a long-sleeved shirt, and a wrap that protected his head and shielded his eyes. He also had a pack that was loaded with water, food, and tools for him to use to hunt and start a fire. Theoretically he would be fine. But theory didn't play much into how things actually played out. It was his second day hiking across the great expanse and Tobias found himself checking his compass almost compulsively to ensure that he was heading in the right direction. It would have been so easy for him to get turned around and then... and then... The sun was reaching high into the sky and, with a groan, Tobias found himself taking shelter behind a large sand dune. There was no point in trying to walk any further right now. He tugged down the cloth in front of his face to allow himself to take a drink of water before huffing again. He was alert and aware but not alert enough - The hylian failed to notice the small desert scorpion slowly skuttling across the sand behind him. tag: OPEN words: a bunch outfit heyo come help Tobi not die |

| The desert was the last place that Zohar wanted to be in, but it was one of the only places that connected Hyrule proper with the other kingdoms, and it was closest to him. If the stories were true, the princess and her family had left Hyrule for one of the other three kingdoms. Surely she would come this way, and he would be here to find her when she did.
That didn't mean that he liked traveling in the desert. He knew what he was doing, though; while he had grown up in Kakariko Village, his parents had frequently shipped him off to various other terrains for training. He'd never once argued, since clearly it would help him to better protect the princess. He wore long-sleeved, light clothes, had protected his face, and had enough provisions to last himself a fair while. Things had been going even better ever since he'd found a group of Bulblins near the edge of the desert and had taken one of their Bullbo. Riding the great boar wasn't easy, but he'd already more than tripled the distance he would have been able to cover on foot.
He would have preferred not to travel during the day, but the Bullbo wouldn't be able to see at night. It seemed content to continue plodding along even with the sun beaming down on it from above, and Zohar was content to let it go, simply sitting back and scanning the area for any sign of travelers.
A miscolored patch on a nearby dune caught his attention, and he urged the Bullbo toward it, squinting against the glare in an effort to see what it was. It... looked like a person? A person seating themselves behind a dune. Idiot. There were all sorts of creatures that lived here and simply preyed off of things that stopped moving.
Halting the boar-like creature, Zohar leapt nimbly from the creature's back, trotting toward the figure. He would be less intimidating this way, and if this was the princess, he didn't want to intimidate her.
That wasn't the case, though. The figure appeared to be a boy, and Zohar couldn't help the scowl that settled over his face - not that the stranger would be able to see much other than his eyes. "Get up." Without waiting for a response, he reached down, gripping the boy by the front of his shirt and dragging him to his feet. "Sitting down on the sand is just asking for something to bite you. Like that." He nodded his head in the direction of the scorpion.
"You clearly don't know what you're doing. Why are you out here?"

| T obias hadn't noticed the stranger's approach before he heard a voice demanding that he 'get up', followed by a hand gripping at the front of his shirt. A flush of irritation, born from the embarrassment he felt, was crawling across the hylian's skin as he pushed the man away. The stranger was taller than Tobias - though considering the blond's rather diminutive size that wasn't too impressive of a feat - and he could make out wisps of white hair and red eyes but that... was it. He turned his gaze to the side to see the scorpion there. Again, Tobias didn't really feel - or express - the proper emotion. Instead of being grateful the Hylian found himself just scoffing before reaching up to push the stranger away. "Yes. A scorpion. A creature that won't attack unless it has to." Tobias had to fight to keep from rolling his eyes as he looked up at the man. "Even if it did sting me I wouldn't die from it. I'm not an idiot and I know what I'm doing. What are you doing though?"And Tobias immediately tried to twist the conversation back onto the stranger. Yes, maybe it was a bit weird that he was out here right now - but, as far as the hylian knew, there really wasn't supposed to be anyone out in the desert. They both were more than a little out of place. "Do you live here? Do you just wait to find people out here to bother?" tag: OPEN words: a bunch outfit heyo come help Tobi not die |

"Oh well excuse me," Zohar scoffed, rolling his eyes and crossing his arms over his chest. "Any creature in the desert can be dangerous, especially when you're this far from civilization. No need to be nice to the person showing concern for your well-being." He hadn't been overly concerned, but what if it had been the princess and she'd gotten hurt and he'd ignored her because he thought it was some random traveler? That would have been inexcusable.
"What are you doing though? Do you live here? Do you just wait to find people out here to bother?"
"Clearly I live in this inhospitable wasteland," he drawled, sarcasm practically dripping from his tone. "Nobody lives in this place - nobody smart, anyway. I'm just passing through, looking for someone." He could have explained more, but... it was entirely possible that this man was working for the queen and was just searching for traitors.
Though... doing so in the desert?
"Where did you come from? Clearly you don't know Hyrule if you think people live here."

| T he desert was worse than Ikana Canyon and the rational part of Tobias knew that it was going to be stupid for him to try to argue that someone could live here just because he had grown up there. Stupid, but the rational part of him wasn't what made decisions in time like this. If it did then he would have just shut him mouth, nodded, and looked grateful until the stranger left. But of course he didn't. "You could live here. You seem to think it's easy enough to know what is and isn't dangerous here so how am I supposed to know you don't?" Okay. Fair enough. Not exactly the best thought-out point but Tobias knew his argument could have been made on weaker ground. Just drop it now."And it's just very convenient that you happen to be passing through now. I thought you said no one lives here. Why would you be looking for someone in a place that there isn't anybody?" Well, no one except for Tobias, and it was becoming clear that rescuing him might have been a mistake. Tobias just scowled. "Does it matter where I'm from? I'm just trying to get to Hyrule and I don't need your help for that." words: a bunch outfit heyo come help Tobi not die |

| "You could live here. You seem to think it's easy enough to know what is and isn't dangerous here so how am I supposed to know you don't?"
"You could theoretically stay here as long as you had supplies. But that's still a finite amount of time," he deadpanned, fighting the urge to roll his eyes at the traveler's stupidity. "And if I lived here, my clothes would most likely reflect that."
"And it's just very convenient that you happen to be passing through now. I thought you said no one lives here. Why would you be looking for someone in a place that there isn't anybody?"
"Because the person I'm looking for isn't from Hyrule, dumbass. This is one of the only ways into Hyrule proper, so of course I'd have to check here. I don't know which way this person is coming through, so I have to check them all." The irritation was creeping back into his tone, along with the sarcastic tone, and Zohar was honestly contemplating turning around and leaving.
"Does it matter where I'm from? I'm just trying to get to Hyrule and I don't need your help for that."
The boy's response had the Sheikah's brow creasing in confusion. Trying to get to Hyrule? People didn't travel to Hyrule anymore. It wasn't that there wasn't commerce between the kingdoms, but the ruling family had restricted travel. What person would travel to Hyrule alone?
Could this be...?
... no. Can't be. "Suit yourself." Zohar turned on his heel, starting to make his way back over to the Bullbo. "I'd hurry if I were you, though. You don't have nearly enough supplies to get across this place and avoid the Gerudo patrols along the borders. But that's not my problem, is it?"

| A smart person would realize they had made a mistake and they would apologize and ask for the stranger to stay and help. A not-so-smart person would just ask for the help and skip the apologizing stage. And Tobias was neither of this because he simply made at face at the stranger's back as he was heading away. "I don't need any help." And he didn't, of course not! He was the great and mighty bearer of Wisdom and he was going to stroll into Hyrule and make everything magically better. Oh sure, there were quite a few flaws and kinks that still needed to be worked out but that was something he could easily figure out on the fly, no big deal. He would get across the desert and get by the Gerudo and nothing was going to stop him. Nothing - except for the same damn scorpion that he had so boastfully claimed wouldn't be able to do anything to harm him before. The creature wasn't exactly tiny. It measured about a foot long front front claws to the tip of its tail and it was fast. Tobias was right to say that it wasn't normally aggressive and that it wouldn't go after him without a good reason, but unfortunately it had a good reason; its young were nearby and, inadvertently, he was coming close to stepping down on the nest it - she - had made for them. It would crush them and she wasn't going to allow that to happen. Tobias was starting to make an attempt to march back into the desert sun to show the stranger that he didn't need help when he felt the string in his calf. It was just a pinch at first and when he looked down he didn't immediately connect it to a scorpion sting. Even when he saw the creature scuttling back away it didn't really sink in - not, at least, until he felt the venom burning through his blood. The area that had been stabbed was swelling up and aching as he felt his vision and head spin. And wordlessly he slumped onto the ground. words: a bunch outfit heyo come help Tobi not die |
